This was shot at the normal lens setting on my smartphone. I'm still looking south on the USC campus, though one cannot see the law school building from this distance.

As I said about the other photo, I was on my way to my car, located in the parking garage to my left. I had finished up a long day at the law school and was done for the semester. I wanted to get this view before I left, as I would not see it again until the spring. This area would be used for the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books -- at least this would be part of the whole campus used for the festival, but that would be about four months away.

I stepped closer to grab this image of Santa's House, all lit up from every possible angle and source. I guess this would have been the last night for everyone to get their orders in before Christmas Eve.

I'm sure the Americana will be pretty quiet Christmas Day, except perhaps for moviegoers showing up to see the newest releases.

Usually the water shoots up to surround the statue. That didn't happen the night I was at the Americana. Maybe management was afraid some water would splash on people in line waiting to see Santa. Now that Christmas is over maybe the fountain can go back to normal operation.

I wanted to shoot video of the water shooting up, but after a while I gave up, set the camera to shoot stills, and got this instead.

I stepped back to get a wider view of Santa's House, as the ultra-wide lens didn't do the trick for this place either. But the area at the Americana was certainly lit up brightly the night I took this photo.

I have seen rainy New Year's Eves, and I have seen clear but cold New Year's Eves, but I don't recall seeing any foggy New Year's Eves. And it was a quiet one at that. I heard a few scattered fireworks in the distance, but otherwise it was pretty quiet in my neighborhood.

I am standing on my front porch, looking at the auto service center across the street.
