Here's an interesting factoid; That memorable noise in the theme song to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" was inspired by the howl of a Coyote according to its composer Ennio Morricone. This is a verbatim quote from an article that appeared in the Times on 17 May 2011 "Inspired by the howl of a coyote, which is the first sound you hear in the film’s opening scene, that “oo-wee-oo-wee-oo wah-wah-wah” is surely the most memorable line of film music ever written".
A week or two back I posted my first sighting of this Coyote: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/53655105188/in/dateposted/ But after a few seconds of eye contact she turned and disappeared. I went in search and surprisingly found her lying down in the shade of a small mangrove tree (It was close to a mangrove swamp at San Ignacio Lagoon). She actually had her head down when I first saw her, but she was up and off soon after I took this.
One final (not very serious) thought; Should a female Coyote be called a Coyotess?
