(In case you're thinking, "are you sure it's a male?" This guy is apparently very modest about his claspers and keeps them tucked fairly close to his body, so they are not visible in this shot.)

A male great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) heads toward the deep blue water below.
Often times, the white sharks at Guadalupe are completely uninterested in the divers in the surface cages and will pass below down deep without giving them a second thought.

Out of all the shark photos that I've taken over the years, this shot of a white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) gracefully and peacefully swimming through the water is probably my favorite. I feel like this is an accurate representation of the species, and how it would typically be viewed in the wild. Most white shark photos that we see in the media tend to be open-jaw shots that try to emphasize the ferocity of the species. In reality, sharks are not eating (and biting things) a vast majority of the time. Recent studies have shown that a 30kg meal can sustain an adult white shark for 12-15 days.
I posted this shot several years ago, but I felt like the color was just a tad off (too much magenta on the shark's snout, in particular), so I went back and re-processed, so that the color was more faithful.
