Charlie's flock is back for him!

A video of Charlie walking over the sharp rocks to get to the water. He must have been feeding on the grass, and all the other members of his flock had gone into the canal.

He walks gingerly over each rock, using his broken wing and good wing for balance.

Once in the water, Charlie is a very good paddler and paddled to his flock. Happiness is being with his flock.

I again called all the wildlife and humane societies yesterday about Charlie. The weather is changing to below freezing, and the canal will be drained January 7.

The canal is 8.2 metres (26 feet) deep, is very steep and Charlie will be stuck at the bottom.

Without water, the canal sides will become covered in slippery ice, then how will Charlie be able to climb out and feed and get water. So sad for Charlie. He will cry and honk for days.

They all know about Charlie and many people have called, just like me. When I call and mention a goose, all of them immediately say, 'you mean the goose on the canal', so they know Charlie.

All have again informed me that there are no wildlife sanctuaries for him, and if they do manage to catch Charlie, he would be euthanized. According to Ontario legislation (so they say), if the wild animal cannot be rehabbed enough to be returned to the wild, then they are obligated by law to euthanize.

So this is one of the last happy paddles for Charlie.


On Tuesday, (day after New Year), I will email all the societies again, with video of Charlie.
