A week before a ship went accidentally through (!) a barrage in the river Maas (Meuse) near the city of Grave , destroying a major part of that barrage resulting in a dramatic fall in the water level of the river . The sluice door at the southern entrance of the Maas-Waal Canal shows the usual water level and the actual level - a difference of about 3 meters . Last night one of them (near the city of Grave) was severely damaged , resulting in an acute massive water loss . The top picture was taken a few weeks ago , the picture below this afternoon . A water level drop of about 2 meters can be read from the pillar .

This afternoon , I revisited the spot . In about 16 hours the water level had become nearly 2 meters lower .
