Eisenbahn-Hubbrücke
Im Südwesten des Usedomer Winkels, an einer der schmalsten Stellen des Peenestroms liegt der Ort Karnin. Aufgrund dieser günstigen Lage verband bis Kriegsende die zwischen Karnin und Kamp befindliche und mit ihren mehr als 500 Metern Länge größte Eisenbahn-Hubbrücke Europas die Insel Usedom mit dem Festland. Unmittelbar zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde die Brücke von der Wehrmacht gesprengt, um der Roten Armee den Weg nach Usedom zu verlegen. Nach dem Ende des Krieges wurden Gleise und noch brauchbare Teile der Hubbrücke im Rahmen der Reparationsleistungen von der Sowjetunion demontiert.
Heute erinnert nur der fast 40 Meter hohe Hubteil an die zwischen 1930 und 1932 erbaute Brücke. Zur damaligen Zeit war die Usedomer Hubbrücke ein imposantes Meisterstück der Technik und wurde deshalb zum Technischen Denkmal gewidmet.
Railway lifting bridge
In the southwest of the Usedom corner, at one of the narrowest points of the Peene River, lies the town of Karnin. Due to this favorable location, the railway lifting bridge, which is located between Karnin and Kamp and is more than 500 meters long, connected the island of Usedom to the mainland until the end of the war. Immediately at the end of the Second World War, the bridge was blown up by the Wehrmacht to block the Red Army's route to Usedom. After the end of the war, the tracks and still usable parts of the lifting bridge were dismantled by the Soviet Union as part of reparations.
Today, only the almost 40-meter-high lifting part reminds us of the bridge, which was built between 1930 and 1932. At the time, the Usedom lifting bridge was an impressive masterpiece of technology and was therefore declared a technical monument.
