ENGLISH
The Sanctuary of Montserrat in Montferri was designed by Josep Maria Jujol, disciple of Gaudí, inspired in the Sagrada Family and the mountains of Montserrat.

The temple was projected and it began between 1926 and 1928, but in year 1931 the works were interrupted by lack of economic resources. During the postwar period a part of the structures already built fell because of a strong wind.

The building was constructed with a very special material of great effect and low cost, consisting of blocks, made on foot of work, of mortar cement portland and sand, very poor in cement and mixed with charcoal, with the purpose of giving a montserratine gray tone, consistency and lightness.

In 1990 the works were started again thanks to the interest of the neighbors, following the original planes and with the advising of the Gaudí Chair and a team of architects specialized in slight structures and materials. The temple was opened definitively to the public in 1999.

El Santuario de Montserrat en Montferri fue diseñado por Josep Maria Jujol, discípulo de Gaudí, tomando como referencia la Sagrada Familia y las montañas de Montserrat.

El templo se proyectó y se inició entre 1926 y 1928, pero en el año 1931 las obras se interrumpieron por falta de recursos económicos. Durante la postguerra parte de las estructuras ya edificadas cayeron a causa de un fuerte viento.

El edificio se construyó con un material muy especial de gran efecto y bajo costo, consistente en bloques, hechos a pie de obra, de mortero de cemento portland y arena, muy pobre en cemento y mezclado con carboncillo, con el fin de darle un tono gris montserratino, consistencia y ligereza.

En 1990 se reemprendieron las obras gracias al interés de los vecinos, siguiendo los planos originales y con el asesoramiento de la Cátedra Gaudí y un equipo de arquitectos especializados en estructuras y materiales ligeros. El templo se abrió definitivamente al público en 1999.
