Gravel Switch, Kentucky– Proprietor and manager of the general store, Jeanne told me a few stories of what life was like here at the edge of Boyle and Marion County when she was growing up. As she posed for a photograph, she told me that the law did not come out much to the border area of three counties. I think she also mentioned something about remembering a train ride to get into the big city of Louisville.
The Kentucky Photo Archive says of Penn's Store, "The store, the oldest country store in America being run continuously by the same family, sits on the Boyle and Casey [and Marion] county line. Opened in 1845, it has been in the Penn family since 1850."

People gotta earn a living, some gotta shop cheap, they say
But why ya gotta give it, gotta give it, gotta give it all away?
