September und Oktober sind die klassischen Nebelmonate im Elbsandsteingebirge. Wenn der Wetterbericht eine hohe Luftfeuchte nahe 100%, kühle Nachttemperaturen von unter 10 Grad und Sonne vorhersagt stehen die Chancen gut, dass sich der Nebel am Tagesanbruch über das Elbtalt legt. An einigen wenigen Tagen "schwappt" der Morgennebel für kurze Zeit aus dem engen Elbtal hinaus in die sich bei Pirnaer öffnende Dresdner Elbtalweitung. Dann umzieht der zarte Nebelschleier auch Schloss Sonnenstein und die Altstadt von Pirna mit der markanten Marienkirche.
