It's been over twenty years since the PSA smile was based in San Diego. US Airways has painted one of their Airbus A319 jets in a retro PSA livery; it happened to fly into San Diego the other day.

Very new Boeing 737-400 of US Air wears the old color scheme but new titles in San Diego in the late 1980s. The older, and in my opinion better, US Air logo is seen on the airstairs.

Found some old photos & negatives and scanned them. Piedmont Airlines started service to San Diego from Los Angeles and Phoenix using Boeing 737-300s, shortly before being bought by US Air. Behind the Piedmont is the tail of a TWA Boeing 767.
