I was not sure on this one...I am using stokes guide which did not have Bar-winged so I didn't even know there was such a creature! Thanks to Odonata457 for setting me straight :)

Bar-winged Skimmers are not an Ode I see with frequency in Howard County. It might just be I'm not around the temporary ponds they prefer. This one was at the Fox Chase sediment pond. Some years it dries up completely...which makes perfect sense why I saw him there.

A fantastic day of Odes at Patuxent refuge today. Close to ninety the Dragonflies were out in abundance. Not too many damsels yet.....but there was plenty to keep my busy!

The Bar-winged Skimmer is one dragon I don't see often. They like temporary ponds so are not as widespread as the similar colored Great Blue Skimmer.
