During the construction of the Cotter dam, water is being released from the dam via the pipes above the Pumping Station on the Murrumbidgee R; just to the left downstream from here.

There is plenty of water at the moment, as opposed to the last 10 years, and all the dams are at 98percent capacity, so to protect the construction site and bypassing the coffer dam and new dam site, water flows through the pipes that convey water to Canberra.

Along the trail are plaques and displays celebrating the life of the Ngunawal people and surrounding tribes as the traditional owners and their ancestors cared for the land in the Cotter Valley.

There is also a time line depicting the history of the valley and the early settlers and floods.

"The spirit of the Cotter itself will remain with you today, tomorrow and always."
