These dioramas have been here for years....

Dioramas or "picture models", as they were first called, have been a part of the Memorial’s displays since its inception. They were first suggested by official war artist Will Dyson and official war historian Charles Bean to give a more vivid impression of war than conveyed through photographs and paintings.

to quote from the notes as had happened on Gallipoli, before they were evacuated, many men, such as Sapper Amor "Bert" Farr, visited their mates who would forever remain behind.

Such cemetery visits were often the Australians' final duty at Tobruk. Farr served in the Middle East in the engineers with the 2/7th Field Company. He was killed, almost at the end of the war, in June 1945 on Tarakan, Borneo. OL00614.001

I always feel very sad to read of our soldiers who nearly made it to the end of the War.
(I load these here in memory of all those lost in these wars.)

See an excellent story here of the bombing of London and Coventry eighty years ago in Sep.-Nov. 1940
