ACT ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN
Canberrans voted for a greener city at the recent ACT election, which is great news for cycling.
Pedal Power is working with the Greens and ACT Labor to make sure all those wonderful promises made in the lead up to the election come to fruition over the next four years.
Some key promises we look forward to seeing implemented over this term of Government include a major boost to the cycling and walking budget to enable:
A comprehensive assessment of the condition of our whole path network by 2022. This should include a rolling Strategic Asset Management Plan for shared paths and a rolling program of proactive maintenance
Development of a 10-year walking and cycling infrastructure plan. This plan should include the development cycling corridors (as per ACT Greens Walking and Cycling policy), commencing with a feasibility study to construct an off-road cycle-path along Adelaide Avenue as part of the light rail extension to Woden
Design and construction of an off-road shared path along Sulwood Drive between Drakeford Drive and Athlon Drive
A route planning study and the start of construction on the Garden City Cycle Route, likely to start in Watson and continue through Dickson, Ainslie and Braddon
The extension of the Belconnen bikeway from Haydon Drive to CIT Bruce
A feasibility study to widen, upgrade and separate the paths around Lake Ginninderra
A route planning study to improve cycling connectivity in the Gungahlin Town Centre
