President George Washington's family estate in Northern Virginia is just a few miles outside of DC. While the home is large, the estate is huge. Today is operates as a museum that provides information about the Washington family and the historic operations of the plantation. It also provides some insights about the lives of the more than 300 enslaved people who supported this life.
The setting on the Potomac River is stunning, and the grounds are lovely. I also appreciate how apparently scientific Washington was with respect to his farming and growing different plants for fun, food, and other needs.
