I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.

I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.

By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!
thx, stampolina

For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

Austrian Landscapes (Freistadt)

Freistadt is the biggest city of Mühlviertel, the Upper Austrian region delimited by the Danube in the south and former Czechoslovakia in the north. Freistadt is an ancient border town, which fact has greatly influenced its history. The city is situated along an old trade route extending since Roman times from the confluence of Enns and Danube to Bohemia and the Baltic. Freistadt was probably founded around 1220 by the Babenberg Duke Leopold VI (1198 - 1230). The town was to serve as a bulwark against the troubled Bohemian border, but also to protect the Babenberg domain against the advances of the bishops of Passau. The basis for the rapid economic development of the town was laid in 1277, when King Rudolf of Habsburg granted Freistadt the right of commodity warehousing and storage. The keep shown on the stamp is considered the symbol of Freistadt Castle and is a remarkable and precious reminder of the past. Its current outlook dates from the period of Duke Rudolf the Founder. The keep is 50 metres high; the steep roof with four oriel-shaped masonry windows endows the almost windowless, square tower with a splendid and sumptuous appeal.
