Architectural Monuments in Austria - "Mint Tower of Hall in Tirol"

In 1303, the development of Hall had already progressed to such an extent that Prince Otto of Carinthia granted Hall a charter, giving it the same rights and freedoms as Innsbruck. The city's importance was mainly based on the wealth derived from salt mining and trade. Likewise, the provincial mint granted in 1477 was of utmost economic benefit to Hall. The existence of productive silver mines in the Inn Valley, and the move of the residence from Merano to Innsbruck, made Archduke Sigmund the Minter move the mint from Merano to Hall. At first, the mint, whose fame extended far beyond the borders of the Tyrol, was housed in the sovereign's Spaberegg residence on Hall's periphery. Later it was housed in Hall's citadel, Hasegg Castle, near the salt mine and, finally, in the nearby Mint Tower. This Tower, which is depicted by the stamp, is the landmark of the city. As early as the 14th century, the curative power of the salt waters was detected and small baths were set up. In 1930, the City of Hall opened a modern spa centre and, later on, a spa hotel. Since that time, the curative power of the baths of Hall in Tirol has helped numerous Austrian and foreign patients.
