February is Black History Month and each week we’re highlighting the work of some of the amazing Black photographers on Flickr. This week, we invite you to explore an album curated by the talented photographer, Michael E Ballard, as he shares about the importance of capturing our memories.

"I never find inspiration lacking when it comes to taking the next picture. Mortality refuses to allow for complacency. I know that the day approaches when I will have taken my last picture. This was driven home a few years ago when I attended my sister-in-law‘s funeral and I realized that over 40 years almost every picture that was present was taken by me. So we continue to record the lives of those around us as they intersect with ours because the work will live on."
