Notes: Before television, continuous newsreel film theatres were a necessary means of seeing current events. When Tommy Burns fought Vic Patrick at the Sydney stadium for the Australian welterweight crown, he was knocked out in the ninth round. The crowd was 13,000, with another 5,000 across the road listening to the radio broadcast. The newsreel of the event shown at the Lyric Theatre was even more popular with huge crowds in George Street for the six daily sessions.
