188735 -McDonnell Douglas CF-188A - Canadian Forces - Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
at Hamilton International Airport (YHM)

The 2017 CF-18 Demonstration Jet celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation -
flown by Pilot Captain Matthew Kutryk - 3 Wing Bagotville, Québec

The specially-painted CF-18 Hornet features the official logo for “Canada 150” placed throughout the design. The logo is composed of a series of diamonds, or “celebratory gems”, arranged in the shape of the iconic maple leaf. The four diamonds at the base represent the four original provinces that formed Confederation in 1867: Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Additional diamonds extend out from the base to create nine more points. Together, they symbolize Canada’s 13 provinces and territories. On the left wing, the timespan of Confederation is shown with the year of Confederation, 1867, and the 150th anniversary year – 2017. The right wing bears the official name of the celebration – “Canada 150”. All aspects of the design come together to create a truly unique and fitting tribute to this important year in Canada's history.

C-GVRA (ED932) - AVRO Lancaster Mk. X - Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

"Dambusters"

at Hamilton International Airport (YHM)

manufactured in 1945 by Victory Aircraft in Malton, Ontario

For the summer 2018 C-GVRA received the colours and markings of ED932, a Lancaster of RAF No.617 Sqn on the 1943 Dambusters raid against the Moehne- and Edersee-dams in Germany.

Operation Chastise was an attack on German dams carried out on 16–17 May 1943 by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron, later called the Dambusters, using a purpose-built "bouncing bomb" The Möhne and Edersee Dams were breached, causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley; the Sorpe Dam sustained only minor damage. Two hydroelectric power stations were destroyed and several more damaged. Factories and mines were also damaged and destroyed. An estimated 1,600 civilians, about 600 Germans and 1,000 mainly Soviet forced-labourers died.
