I thought this sign, next to the Pizza Pizza franchise on Somerset St. at Bronson Avenue, would make a good cover picture for my Ottawa Chinatown album.

Kowloon Market is an Asian grocery store in the heart of Ottawa's Chinatown that shares its premises with Fullhouse Karaoke & Bubble Tea Café, where two Chinese students were shot to death in December 2005 after an argument.

You can also see Bubblicity Tea Shop and St. Luke's Anglican Church.

Humphrey Plaza is a somewhat seedy-looking building with three storeys of stores and businesses on Somerset St. at the corner of Arthur Street in Ottawa's Chinatown.

You can also see the Yangtze Restaurant, one of the finer Chinese restaurants in Ottawa, the Bulgogi Garden Korean Restuarant, and the Kowloon Market Chinese grocery store.

I had to make my once-a-month trip to a certain government office (for mundane reasons) on Preston Street on Monday.

Afterwards, I decided to walk north to Somerset and then turn east, to explore Ottawa's Chinatown, which isn't as architecturally distinct as even the Chinatown in Montreal, but it's still visibly Asian.

This block, on the south side of Somerset Street West between Booth Street and Rochester Street, has the Nasa Food Centre (which, despite its name, specializes in Indian food, not astronaut food), some kind of clothing store with no visible outdoor sign, the Cafe Orient Hong Kong Restaurant, the Hoang Oanh Vietnamese sandwich restaurant (I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Vietnamese sandwich), D's Hairstylists, the shell of the Mekong Grocery store, where a fire in April 2005 killed 5 members of the Cambodian family that ran the store, and the Karuna Café, a restaurant specializing in Indian and Sri Lankan food.
