Espee's westbound Ione Local has stopped momentarily in Herald, California at the Central California Traction Company diamond before proceeding towards the mainline at Galt. This branch is one of the few survivors into the Union Pacific era and continues to see three trains a week, servicing a roofing chip plant near Ione. The loads of plywood on this train became a thing of the past with the shutdown of Sierra Pacific's Martell mill and the associated termination of train service on the Amador Foothills Railroad in June 2004.
