Preserved and mainline certified English Electric Type 5 Class 55 Co-Co 'Deltic' diesel locomotive 55009 'Alycidon' impersonating 55013 'The Black Watch' just outside Loughborough Central Station the heritage Great Central Railway in the County of Leicestershire (UK).
55009 was built by English Electric at The Vulcan Foundry Newton le Willows as British Railways Type 5 D9009 in 1961 and withdrawn from service as British Rail Class 55, 55009 on January 2nd 1982.
55009 is one of 6 Deltic's preserved out of a batch 22 locomotives built.
The real 55013 was withdrawn in December 1981 and scrapped in 1982.
I am lucky enough though to have seen Deltic's in service and I have a record of 'spotting' this locomotive in my Ian Allan Motive Power 1979 book at Peterborough and Kings Cross stations during that year.
