>>>>Needs to be viewed large for maximum viewing pleasure.<<<<

The rugged remains of the once mighty Dunure Castle on the west coast of Scotland.

The tower is believed to date back to the 13th century, and was the seat of the Kennedys of Carrick. The castle has been abandoned since the end of the17th century.

You can find more info on Dunure Castle on Undiscovered Scotland.

I had a lot of debate over the crop of this with my "mentor" Jono... this is none of our initial suggestions... lol. I struggle with b&w, so constructive criticism welcome... thanks

Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland. If you're interested in learning more, click here www.stirlingcastle.gov.uk/

Dawn over the ruins of Skelbo Castle - Loch Fleet, in the Highlands of Scotland.

Skelbo Castle dates back to the 14th century, and was once one of the most important castles in the north of Scotland.

I tried to get as much of the morning sky as possible, so you'll need to view a bit larger on black to see the castle remains.

Really starting to feel like spring now, and such a pleasant change to have blue skies in Scotland again! Stopped by Blackness castle on the Forth estuary, and caught the very last of the sun hitting the castle, before it dropped below the horizon. Near full moon was just to the right, tried to get it in shot, but walking out on the mudflats was a bit treacherous.

More to see on my blog

Early morning at Newark castle, St Monans on the fife coast... a tough shot to do as the best of dawn colour was behind me, and the temptation to swing round 180 degrees was very high... Decent swell in the sea, almost came a cropper by getting a little too close to the action, as the shot in the comments shows.

Shot info
Canon 5dMkII, EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens @ 26mm, 10 secs, f18, ISO 50, circular polariser, tripod.
RAW file processed in ACR, and TIFF edited in Photoshop.

Worth a view larger.
