This is the view if you end up going all the way to the Hilton. They have an awesome rooftop pool, but it closes before sunset! There’s no way to get out there, no matter how much you beg and plead, believe me. But if you move to the corner of the upstairs bar, you can in fact get this view. It looks pretty good, yes, I agree, but this photo would have been 10x better if I could have just gotten over to the pool area. Balderdash!

If I lived in Venice, I reckon I’d try to eat dinner in every restaurant by the canal at least every other night. What could be better than Italian food and wine by a magical and mysterious network of canals? Who could get tired of that? I’ve often semi-joked in speeches that my favorite times are when things are going into or out of my body… haha…. and, well, this is one of the best things into my body!

Naturally, there are gondolas all over Venice, but the best place to shoot them is around the edge of St. Mark’s Square as the sun is setting. Almost all of the gondoliers bring their boats in here at the end of the day and dock them for the night. It’s one of the best times to come see them all lined up in processing.

Whenever it started to rain in Venice, I would drop everything and get out there to shoot. Even better, it was just about to get dark so all the little businesses started to turn on their lights. That reflection of the ground simply cannot be beat. Luckily, this cute waitress gal happened to be walking right through the frame, so I was sure to grab a photo of her just as she passed in front of that bright spot.
