Daily Photo - Two Paths Through the Tangled Japanese Forest
The day in Kyoto had a steady light rain. When I was going through this forest, I was able to lower the umbrella. The little droplets seemed to get caught up in the upper canopy of the trees. Big drops would plop down from time to time, but it was kind of nice, in a storybook way.

I got to this point and couldn't decide which way to go... which way would you have gone?

Recap of the Photowalk

It turned out to be a great Photowalk!

I sent out a few worried tweets while en route because of the rain, and I got tweets back that there was a full complement of photowalkers waiting under the tree in The Oval. I showed up, at the very last possible second, and then said hi to everyone. It was a very upbeat crowd, and I was happy to meet all of them! I think we had around 50 there, even though the rain was rather epic, especially by California standards!

After I explained the way I do my Photowalks (half shooting, half sharing online), we set out to hit a few spots on campus. As we were moving about, Arnav Moudgil took this photo (also on the right) for the newspaper. This was taken when we were walking in one of the covered areas of the campus.

We moved around and hit several locations, including the one below. At the end, we went over to an eating area and talked for a long while about photography and stuff! I signed books, gave away all kinds of goodies from Smugmug, and this sort of thing -- it was nice to meet such enthusiastic photographers. One enterprising Type A created a "Stuck In Stanford" Flickr group where people are currently sharing their photos... this is my first contribution to the group!

Daily Photo - The Stanford Church in the Photowalk Storm

The rain situation was betwixt sprinkles and torrent. There was enough rain to moisten my bulbous 12-24 (that sounds dirty), so I wanted to be quick. Usually, I let people look through my lens to see the composition, but, it would have gotten too wet... so I just fired away quickly then put on my little trombone-cover-thing.

Now, maybe my smart audience can help me figure this out. Some people on the walk told me that "HDR" was "invented" here at Stanford. Others tell me MIT. A few people told me that the first HDRs ever taken were inside this very church (where I also collected some shots, for publication soon). Anyway, this all sounds very intriguing... and I am interested to know the real answers!

There is an amazing hallway that connects the The Hotel at Mandalay Bay with the rest of the casino. It's long and at its end is a cool bar, which is a welcome respite no matter what kind of night you had in Vegas. Actually, I wouldn't really know since I don't drink... but, I do like to hang out in them, drink tomato juice, and process photos on my latptop. Yes, this is lame, I know.

I'll be going to Vegas again in two weekends. I've got a list of places I want to visit with the camera... any suggestions?

I have not spent enough time in Boston! I really need to explore the city more, but I tried to make the most of it while I was there.

One evening, about an hour from sunset, I found one of the prettiest waterfronts and started walking along it to see what I could find. After only a few moments, I came to this nice little area of greenery, benches, and a nice place to hang out and appreciate the colors of Boston. After only spending a short amount of time there, I now see why people like it so much!

The 40km hike in Argentina (which my legs still feel and probably always will), it started out by ascending a small mountain in the Andes. A small mountain in the Andes, by the way, is a mountain of incomprehensible proportions in any other part of the world. After a harrowing trip, I was greeted with this view of the rest of the hike. Luckily, I was tired enough to grant myself an excuse to take off my pack and put together my Inspector Gadget camera setup to grab this shot.

In other news... wait just a few hours... we have a big announcement coming! :)
