The afternoon yesterday had a typical London rainshower. But it cleared up just before sunset to reveal magnificent clouds. I crisscrossed the Thames River many times to find the right light. After the sun dipped below the horizon, the light finally fell behind Westminster with a delicate palette.

So, I just got finished watching Wicked in London. It was a very cool experience. I would have enjoyed getting a few more shots of the environs and actors/actresses -- maybe next time!
The stage was wonderfully elaborate and fantasy-steampunk. I didn't expect so much steampunk stuff in my life lately...

Today's shot is of the newly famous London Eye. It's more than just a ferris wheel. I can understand why it was so controversial when it was being built. What proper city would want a carnival-esque attraction right in the middle of it all? Well, this is no regular ferris wheel. It's at least four times bigger than most, and each capsule is like a tiny plane. Sadly, I didn't have a chance to go inside for a ride...

So, this museum has the Rosetta Stone -- what else do you need to know? And if it's got that, you know it has some other amazing things as well. I spent two days there -- one shooting and one exploring! Okay, well, both shooting.
When the whole class went inside, there were a ton of us with tripods. We gathered around outside before we went in with our gameplan. Our strategy was simple: "Spread out and shoot. They can't catch us all." So we did exactly that and flew to the four winds. The guards were on their earphones nonstop trying to figure out what was happening with this flash mob. They would catch one, then run to the next, then the next. They got confused on who that had told to stop and who they hadn't, so it was easy to be a repeat offender. In the end, no one was thrown out... it's sort of a testament to not worrying about it all... just go for it!

I flew to London directly from Burning Man. I was tired, dirty, very tired, and very dirty. But that didn't stop me from adventuring out! It was still a bit before my friend Scott arrived, and still many days before my wife and others arrived... so I spent some time wandering the London streets at night. You never know when the muse is gonna visit, so you have to go out and wander when she does!
These red phone booths are perfect little specimen for photography, no? I'm trying to remember the first time I ever saw one. It was probably when I was a kid, watching Monty Python with my dad on PBS. Speaking of that, I recently listened to the Michael Palin autobiography on Audible (try them out - I love Audible!). I didn't realize the show was kind of floundering in the UK when it really hit big in the US. It sounds like the whole crew was surprised how popular the show was in America. All I can imagine is that their behavior must have just seemed perfectly mundane and normal in England.
