This is the Chukchi Sea, part of the Arctic Ocean. On June 20 it was just starting to thaw and break up for the summer. The sea itself was fairly devoid of bird life, save for one rowdy group of Glaucous Gulls hanging around the area where the natives were carving up a whale. We did find a King Eider swimming in this channel of melted water one day as well.
