With everything thats been going on it's a slow process this year. Finally will be done with it. We have been joking about leaving it up and just putting a large plastic bag over it. ( would be a lot easier than carefully packing everything in a storage box ).
Not going to happen because we still have a lot of painting and remodeling to do. ( planing to convert the fire place to natural gas this year ) That means the chimney will have to be uncapped and inspected and modified to burn natural gas before the gas burner and new gas pipes can be installed. When it is done it will look like real wood logs burning in the fire place but won't have ashes to remove after every use. A much cleaner proposition I think.
The house has 2 venting systems One for wood burning ( the chimney ) and a pipe that vents the furnace out through the bacement wall up the back of the house. ( a steel pipe about 4 inches in diameter ) it's a very effecient system compared to the older metheds of removing monoxide gas. I haven't studied just how it works but the blower fan that circulates the heat also blows the carbon monoxide gas out of the vent pipe from the furnace.
