The indentation running through is a spring fed stream it is covered with leaves but there is maybe two inches of slow moving water below that. Logs and other objects have fallen across it and act as natural dams pooling the water causing it to stand .

This is deeper in than I normally go. Probably not the smartest thing I have done lately. I only had my street shoes on not heavy boots. I had just water proofed them for the winter and not ready to ware.

There are at least 30 deer in this photo ( there really is ) but you probably can't spot them all. I can see one. the others are in the heavy brush on the other side of the bog and they are not letting me get close.

If you look at the left side of the photo you can just barely make one out. halfway down and about2 1/2 half inches in.

Finally reached a place where I could cross the soft bottomed gully and not get muddy or wet. Saw a ton of whitetail deer and the forest has donned it winter wardrobe.

It.s bow season on the white tail. I am not in favor of this. The great white hunter gets permission to go on land next to the preserve. They are not allowed to enter the preserve to hunt or pursue game or retrieve shot game. I would like to catch one doing it.
