Emma Gorge

Regarded as one of the great Australian 4WD tracks, the Gibb River Road is now sealed from Kununurra to the entrances of both El Questro Emma Gorge and El Questro Station. A two-kilometre gravel road gets you to the car park and Emma Gorge’s safari- style tented cabins. The open-air, Emma’s Restaurant is a great place to have a feed or a drink after hiking up the gorge.

The walk up the gorge starts with a level gravel path but soon reverts to a challenging bolder strewn riverbed as gorge narrows. An hour’s walk will get you to the end of the gorge and provide the opportunity to take a cool and refreshing swim. The walk is well worth the effort as the waterhole and waterfall at the end of the gorge is spectacular. The 65m high cliffs and waterfall close in above your head and create a cathedral like atmosphere.

Shower and ablution facilities are available near the car park. Have a shower once you get back and then enjoy a beer and a meal at Emma’s restaurant.
