Angler Zach Sypert of Bedford caught the first Legacy Class largemouth bass of the 2019 Toyota ShareLunker season out of Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth Jan. 26. The 14.57 pound, 27 inch largemouth bass is the second 13 pound or larger Toyota ShareLunker to have been caught from the lake in the last two years and outweighs the previous water body record set in 2018 by almost two pounds.

ShareLunker 578 is a 13.79lb giant ShareLunker caught by Gary Klein Pro Angler. TPWD staff led a hook-and-line effort to collect largemouth bass 13lbs+ from our research contract lake to be incorporated in our ShareLunker selective-breeding program. These fish are highly valued for our captive breeding program and traditional sampling methods are largely ineffective in capturing fish over 13 pounds. We recruited a handful of local professional anglers to give us the best chance to collect a fish of this size. Professional angler, Gary Klein, was successful in catching this 13.79lb bass, which allowed TPWD staff to enter the fish into the ShareLunker Legacy Class captive spawning program. Gary’s contributions to ShareLunker will continue to make bass fishing bigger and better in Texas’ public waters.
