LAKE PARK, FL -- A long-time fast food fixture at the corner of Dixie Highway and Northlake Road has closed suddenly after 44 years of service.
Call it a Double Whopper as another recently long standing closure further south on Dixie in West Palm Beach closed earlier this year.
A local onlooker, a sixty-something Navy man in a black pickup recalled better times from the establishment he remembers from fourty years ago as he swore off this one after having an unwelcomed, shuttered dining room during daytime hours. 'You have to watch your roof in the drive-thru' pointing to the terracotta turmoil below as shattered tiles littered the planter beds and gravel below, gazing upon bruised corners and bald spots on the recently power washed roof.
9031 Dixie Highway closed without warning at the end of April, now signaling patrons to go to the one on 45th Street. After circling the building like a bone-picking condor, around eight pull-ups were sighted, unflinching, at the lack of cars in the lot before leaving emptier than when they came in.
'Any idea what's coming next' he asked? Maybe [Raising] Cane's, whose been sweeping South Florida faster than Chick Fil-A's northern invasion a decade ago, who certainly has the space of a Burger King during its prime (and a nice patio!).
Northlake Road currently sees more passerbys than most commerce strips from 1 to 95 than most corridors in Palm Beach county and proves to be a hot property for its next endeavor be it burgers, chicken or both.
