The late Caldor in Newington opened in 1994 did not survive long enough to make a permanent stamp on Newington's side of the Berlin Turnpike. When Caldor closed in 1999, this store became vacant for seven years before an eventual transformation of Stew Leonard's Fresh Farm Market.

Here's where it all began, folks: Photo #1. What would later become The Caldor Rainbow, the origin of our blog came about by way of this very site on the Berlin Turnpike. Once and originally home to Caldor at the Newington Fair plaza, this site stood vacant for roughly seven years before local supermarket tycoon Stew Leonard's brought its fourth location to Newington.
