A nearly 57-year establishment on the corner of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and North Dixie Highway closes suddenly. Now more than Burger King but an aging blight for many years closes suddenly after 49 years of service.

While the town has it pegged at 1967 while the building has a distinctively 1975 archetype for the chain with a lipped slope roofline flavored for the southern climate with terracotta tiles adorning the cap. This one hadn't been updated in decades.

The property was sold to in 1975 to current owner and franchise operator Palmetto Realty Company by way of Ryan Tax Firm, a Houston, TX-based company who now handles many franchise LLCs, but now hangs in the balance.

After this location closed without fanfare around December 2023, it compiled complaints and became a magnet for misery battered for poor service and substandard health practices.

Now, it's just a magnet for homelessness, squatters and other panhandlers hanging out and has become a dumping ground for trash galore -- just a block away from multi-million-dollar mansions and historic neighborhoods along Lake Worth Lagoon and the posh Palm Beach Yacht Club.

The property is now derelict and quickly degrading just months later. All markings from the franchise have disappeared. No sales have been announced after several months.

These old bones BKs are disappearing en mass as the chain absorbs massive financial losses as clamp downs enforce franchises to uniform. Others like it can be found around the county in Lake Worth (South Congress) and Lake Park (Northlake & Dixie).
