Two Kansas Army National Guard 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were deployed to Harvey County, Kansas over the weekend to assist local firefighters suppress wildland fires. The helicopters are able to reach areas not easily accessible to firefighters on the ground. Maj. Evan Dale, Chief Warrant Officer 3 James Kearns, Staff Sgt. Ed Dillon, and Spc. Jack DeAngelo of the West Virginia National Guard’s Company C, 1-150th Assault Battalion deployed to California in September, 2020 to perform aerial woodland firefighting missions and will remain on station through at least Oct. 15, 2020, to assist local and federal officials in their efforts to contain and put out the North Complex Fire which has burned more than 300,000 acres throughout nine counties in the northern part of the state The crew has also recently been tasked to assist with the August Complex Fire, which to date has consumed more than 949,000 acres. Oregon Army National Guard Soldier Pfc. Iverson Hallers throws out a 100-foot roll of fire hose to complete a water supply line more than a mile long. The line will be used to provide remote areas of the Two Four Two fire near Chiloquin, Ore. with water to assist in mop up operations, Sept. 18. Approximately 1000 Oregon Guard members are supporting overall firefighting efforts with both aviation and ground crews, in addition to supporting county liaison teams and Oregon State Police with both traffic control points and fatality search and rescue operations.
