Douglas C-54 Skymaster c/n 5557 - parked near the apron of Tempelhof airfield.
This C-54 was a troop carrier with a capacity of up to 50 troops. It is 28.6m long and has a wingspan of 35.8m. MTOW is 33 tons. The G-version is powered by 4x Pratt & Whitney R-2000-9 radial engines. During the Berlin Airlift the C-54 was able to carry 3x more cargo than the C-47
Skytrain (or
Gooney Bird).
This particular aircraft was used for a number of German movie productions like "Luftbrücke", "Die Bubi-Scholz-Story" and "Hilde".
