This Tuesdays Only departmental service was a occasional target of mine at the time as it was booked a DCWA sector class 50 and brought the first visit of the type to the South Staffs line. Unfortunately I had really bad luck with 9M01/9V01 twice being diverted via the Lickey instead and also turning up with class 47 instead (of course when it was gloriously sunny!). The one occasion I managed to get a 50 on it the weather was appalling and for a variety of reasons I didn't get it on Bescot Curve and had to chase it to Droitwich Spa instead. Early running was endemic too with it often running hours ahead of schedule which also made it tricky to get a shot as there was no RTT back then! The photographer was lucky on this occasion with the train comprised mainly of Satlink wagons from nearby Great Bridge and a trio of TTAs off maintenance.
