From the 6th of February until the 23d of March 2014 Gallery IKM
presents work by Tjook. Tjook is always on the lookout for
new possibilities and new materials. He doesn`t want to create
one perfect picture.
Tjook analyses, constructs, deconstructs and combines different images.
Here he used the mobile phone as camera. He researches what the mobil
can do and uses it to visualize something new. In this ways a new esthetic
is created.
The series “Mobile Scans” is a collage av mobilphone images taken
from the train window from Fetsund to Oslo. New technologies give
new opportunities. The mobile phone scrambles our lives says the artist,
while at the same time we are in need of this new technology in order to
take control in a world where one lacks overview.
Tjook shows two installations as well. “The Poop sphere” is a lamp
built of thousands of moose droppings. “Vannmonopolet” makes a
link between the biblical history of the marriage in Canaa and the
Norwegian state owned wine monopoly.
The artist Tjook moved from the Netherlands to Norway in 1997.
He got his art education at the art academy Minerva (Groningen).

Tjook "Scrambled"

Tjook er en kunstner som alltid er på jakt etter nye muligheter og nye materialer. Han er ikke ute etter det ene perfekte bildet. Han analyserer, konstruerer, bryter opp og setter sammen forskjellige bilder. I denne utstillingen bruker han for eksempel mobilen som fotoapparat. Han undersøker hva en mobil kan få til og bruker den til å visualisere noe som ikke var der fra før. Slik oppstår det en ny estetikk og et nytt billedspråk.
Serien "Mobile Scans" er en kollasj av mobilopptak tatt fra togvinduet på Kongsvingerbanen. Den nye teknologien gir oss nye muligheter. Med kunstnerens egne ord, så "scrambler" mobilen våre liv, samtidig som vi trenger den for å få kontroll og helhet i en verden der ingen helt har oversikt.
I tillegg viser Tjook to installasjoner. “The Poop Sphere”– en lysende sfære bygget opp av tusenvis av elgebæsj fra Romerikes skoger og "Vannmonopolet", en installasjon som kobler statseide Vinnmonopolet til den bibelske historien om giftemålet i Kana i Galilea.
Kunstneren Tjook flyttet fra Nederland til Norge i 1997. Han er utdannet ved kunstakademiet Minerva i Groningen. Tjook er låtskriver, sanger, musiker, fotograf, filmmaker, og UX-designer.
