All tucked in and cozy, this lonely, abandoned homestead has stood the test of time. The stone structure is sheltered from the winds, nestled into this Grand Dike, and is still steadfast and livable with a little TLC.

Passing thru Gardner, Colorado, we drive and drive but don't seem to be getting any closer. It is amazing how the mountains are vast and scattered about and are so far away but seem so close.
Sheep Mountain and Little Sheep Mountain are neighbors, this is Little Sheep, elevation 9,600 ft with a Grand Dike and forest skirting its leading edge. It's hard to grasp the scale of this rock. The log cabin and fencing in the FG, as well as the forest trees leading up to the Dike are all much taller than a human.

Meandering miles of unfamiliar county roads, every which way you look is sprawling beauty. This road is so inviting, but the area is private beyond this fence. We are driving towards Westcliffe, Colorado, parallel with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. the Sangre's are a segment of the southern Rocky Mountains in the United States.
Interesting clouds are starting to form from the elevated winds.

Pick a Spot, any Spot
On our way to Chappy's in Westcliffe for a Bison burger. We found these gentil giants just laying around on top of a narrow Bluff. It's a nice long strip of grazing land. On one side is the road we are on; the other side is a sharp drop-off to the wooded valley below. Then another steep drop that gives way to the mountains. These are some of the most "chilled", "Living their best life" Bison I've seen.
You know, I was talking sweet to them, and as soon as I mentioned Chappy's, three of them turned their back to me.... I guess Bison and Burger in the same sentence is a touchy subject. go figure
