Exploring around Trinidad Lake in Southwest Colorado, there's nice light and a great view of Fishers Peak. The peak is approx. 5 miles from here with an elevation of 9,600 ft. The small nearly frozen river would be beautiful for Ice Skating, leading to the frozen lake. Gotta be diligent for underflow currents and thin ice.

A lone windsock downwind of Fishers Peak state Park, in Trinidad, Colorado.
With grasslands to the east and foothills and mountains to the west, Fishers Peak in the BG serves as an important corridor for wildlife such as elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, black bear and mountain lion. With an elevation of 9,633 feet, it is an easy but "don't kid yourself" hilly hike to the summit.

We are at the base of the East Spanish Peak Mountain. Well, almost! We are actually 2 miles to go, but this is as close as we can get from this direction. There is one private road, and its chain locked closed.
Our home is behind us 7 miles back. If we were to drive and hike, from near La Vita, we could take a trail along the North ridge and ultimately hike to the top.

Just down the road from where I took the pic of my previous post, we came across this larger grand Dike. I find it interesting that these can go on for miles.
Here is some history.
The Great Dikes of Spanish Peaks Country in Co. USA were formed during the same period of volcanic activity as the Spanish Peaks, Mt. Mestas, and Silver Mountain. These vertical granite formations were formed by molten rock several thousand feet underground, below and among many layers of sedimentary rock. The dikes radiate from the Peaks like spokes in a wheel, and vary in length from a few hundred feet to over 14 miles
This one is focus stacked also and has nice zoomed in detail.
