i'm feeling a bit ill today and don't have the energy to process a whole lot of my more recent images -- the best i can offer today is this image of a tavern that's hidden away at the windmills area in chios (tolis has a beautiful gallery). i couldn't see it from the road -- i spotted it only when i was walking around the windmills themselves.
i don't know how, but my train of thought led me to imagine a huge party for flickr friends and contacts, with everyone holding a camera, shooting each other and looking for something interesting.
i'll try to get around to your streams today -- (it cheers me up!) -- but i hope you forgive me if i don't succeed.

this was a helpful little rail on an abruptly sloped lane in my neighborhood in chios.
i noticed it because this is the kind of attention to detail and compassion for others that is lost and, unfortunately, not even missed by most in contemporary athens.

we had to go. i wasn't in the mood for taking pictures.
we were carrying lots of stuff and arrived to queue for the ferry... i got annoyed by people trying to cut in line.
uninspired, i set my camera on the gate and shot a few of the harbor... i was thinking that i might not return. but you never know.

when mentioning chios, one inevitably hears a famous colloquial phrase in greece that says 'people in chios always travel in pairs'.
during the ottoman empire, the conquerors used to force people in chios to actually carry them on their shoulders. in order to avoid this humiliation, people would travel in pairs... when they spotted an ottoman turk, one friend would pick the other up -- supposedly the turk had no right to ask the other person to get off to ride in his place.
i spotted this fence with a meandros motif in our vrontados neighborhood on a morning walk. i liked the fence-keh, but out of these three shots, i think i like the elevation shot the best. i posted all three, just because it's such a pretty specimen.
i've added this to the map.
