Johnie's Broiler was a Googie-style coffee shop located in Downey, California from 1958 until 2001. In 2007, a 99-year lease was signed with a new tenant, Ardas Yanik, who took it upon himself to illegally demolish the restaurant after the city had turned down a demolition permit in November of that year.

A photo of that demolition can be seen here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JB_Demo_January_2007.jpg

When that bastard - I mean, Mr. Yanik, was caught by the police, was charged with three misdemeanor counts, and his lease was terminated.

The Bob's Big Boy chain took over the space in 2009, and restored the restaurant to how it looked back in the day. It's now once again a functioning diner, with part of the original sign intact - as seen here.
