This is a backdated view of Dennis Falcon FBY 768 to represent the condition in which it entered service in Malta. It later received black window frames and a repositioned orange stripe, which collectively reduced the area of white paint, plus cosmetic modifications to its grille. Sometimes less is more and my preference was for the original style. This bus was a very late example of ex-UK imports for the route bus fleet and was to remain a unique. Introduced in 1981, the Falcon was Dennis’s challenger to the highly successful rear-engined Bristol RE. Most unusually, the range included horizontal and vertical-engined variants (Falcon H and Falcon V) for single-deckers and double-deck bodies respectively. Two of the relatively rare short-wheelbase Falcon Hs with East Lancs bodies were bought new by Hyndburn Transport in 1984/5. B51 XFW was re-registered PIL 9738 by second-hand owner Pilkingtons of Accrington before sale to Malta in 2004, where it entered service as FBY 768 (updated 10-Mar-25).

This Scarnif-bodied Leyland Tiger Cub has previously been featured in a plain overall white livery. Peppin's silver scheme with blue lettering and graphics is a distinct improvement; indeed Peppin's small fleet has become one of the smartest on the island. In addition to modern front-line coaches, it includes former route buses from Malta and Gozo. This fictional Leyland Tiger Cub would be a useful addition for schools and contract work (24-Dec-12).

Last month, we celebrated Flickr’s 21st birthday with a 21 day photo challenge that brought together over 5,000 Flickr members and culminated in a collection of 26K photos. While the purpose of the group was to celebrate Flickr community engagement at its finest, we also handed out some Flickr Pro memberships as prizes for each ‘theme’ winner along with randomly selecting several winners who completed a full 21 day challenge streak.

Check out the winners on the Flickr blog!
