Seductive French actress and wild girl Béatrice Dalle (1964) made a big splash with her film debut in 37°2 le matin/Betty Blue (1986). She went on to appear in a series of major roles in French and American films. Her unpredictability has gained her almost as much attention off-screen as on.

Béatrice Dalle was born as Béatrice Françoise Odona Cabarrou in Brest, France, in 1964. (However, a number of sources state she was born in Le Mans, France.) In 1985 she married the painter Jean-François Dalle but they divorced in 1988. She was spotted by a photographer on the Champs Élysées. Following a cover shoot in Photo magazine on the subject of Lolitas, Dalle was introduced to agent Dominique Besnehard, who in turn introduced her to film director Jean-Jacques Beineix. He cast her in the lead role in his erotic drama 37°2 le matin/Betty Blue (Jean-Jacques Beineix, 1986). Betty Blue is a sexually aggressive free spirit who becomes involved with Zorg (Jean-Hugues Anglade), a repairman moonlighting as a writer. The two engage in a variety of sexual encounters and grow more passionate toward each other. Her portrayal of the beautiful, impulsive but increasingly unstable Betty was a sensation. The French cinema had a new sex symbol. Jason Buchanan at AllMovie: “Immediately recognized by the French masses for her unmistakable presence and stunning performance as the titular character, Dalle's career was soon on the rise, with a subsequent performance as a woman who claims to be a witch in La Visione del Sabba (Marco Bellocchio, 1988) cementing her status as an unconventional actress of daring sensibilities.” Chimère (Claire Devers, 1989) was entered into the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. She then appeared opposite Isabelle Huppert in the dark drama La Vengeance d'une Femme (Jacques Doillon, 1989), based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's 'The Eternal Husband'. Privately, she had a ten-year relationship with the French rapper Joey Starr.

Béatrice Dalle made her international debut as a beautiful but surly blind girl in the Paris episode of the round-the-world comedy Night on Earth (Jim Jarmusch, 1991). That year, she also featured in the music video Move To Memphis (1991) by Norwegian band A-ha. Dalle appeared almost exclusively in French films, including À la Folie/Six days, six nights (Diane Kurys, 1994) about A menage-a-trois between rival sisters (Dalle and Anne Parillaud) and a boyfriend, and J'ai Pas Sommeil/I Can't Sleep (Claire Denis, 1994) about two nocturnal serial killers who terrorize Paris. Her first Hollywood production was The Blackout (Abel Ferrara, 1997) as the girlfriend of Matthew Modine, but her American career was cut short. During the production of The Blackout in Miami, she was arrested for cocaine possession. The incident would later come back to haunt her. Following her arrest, Dalle was declared an ‘Undesirable Immigrant. She would later be denied an American work permit to play the role of Bruce Willis' wife in The Sixth Sense, leaving the role open for actress Olivia Williams to fill. It was not the only incident. In 1991, Dalle had already been arrested for stealing a drug conviction in France in addition to a prior conviction of stealing jewels from a Paris boutique. She also had a drug conviction in France and there was another incident in which Dalle physically attacked a Parisian meter maid who was writing the actress a ticket for parking in a handicapped space.

In 2001, Béatrice Dalle appeared in the controversial art-house thriller, Trouble Every Day (Claire Denis, 2003), in which she played a cannibal opposite Vincent Gallo. Then she was directed by Nobuhiro Suwa in H Story (2001), a postmodern adaptation of Alain Renais' classic Hiroshima, Mon Amour (1959) Suwa plays himself as a director who is seeking to remake the masterwork and has cast Dalle in the lead role originally played by Emmanuelle Riva. A critical success were the dramas Le temps du loup/The Time of the Wolf (Michael Haneke, 2003) starring Isabelle Huppert, Clean (Olivier Assayas, 2004) with Maggie Cheung and Nick Nolte, and L'Intrus/The Intruder (Claire Denis, 2004) with Michel Subor. In 2005, Dalle encountered Guénaël Méziani when they co-starred in Tête d'Or/Golden Head (2005), a film produced inside a prison in Brest. She appeared as a princess who fell for a prisoner. In reality, Dalle also fell in love at first sight with Meziani who was really serving a 12-year prison sentence for assaulting and raping his ex-girlfriend. She married him after 24 one-hour visits with him and spoke on his behalf at hearings for his early release. According to the newspaper Le Parisien, in May 2009 just weeks after he was given a conditional release for good behaviour, police were called to her flat in the Marais district of Paris because of a violent dispute in which Meziani allegedly threatened to kill her. Their divorce was pronounced in July 2014. In recent years, she starred in such films as À l'intérieur/Inside (Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury, 2007), in which she played a cruel psychopath stalking a pregnant woman, the TV film New Wave (Gaël Morel, 2008) and the family drama Domaine/Domain (Patric Chiha, 2009) in which she played an alcoholic and onetime professor of mathematics. At the time of writing this post, Béatrice Dalle’s latest films are Notre paradis/Our Paradise (Gaël Morel, 2011) and Bye Bye Blondie (Virginie Despentes, 2012) with Emmanuelle Béart. In recent years, she appeared in such films as Rupert Everett's The Happy Prince (2018), a biographical drama film about Oscar Wilde, Gaspar Noé's Lux Æterna (2019), an independent experimental meta-art film, and La Bête dans la jungle/The Beast in the Jungle (Patric China, 2023), an upcoming internationally co-produced drama based on a novella by Henry James.

Arguably the top screen comedian of the 1990s, Canadian-born entertainer Jim Carrey (1962) has combined equal parts of his idol Jerry Lewis, his spiritual ancestor Harry Ritz, and the loose-limbed Ray Bolger into a gleefully uninhibited screen image that is uniquely his own. He rose to fame in the sketch comedy series In Living Color (1990) and leading roles in the comedies Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and The Mask (1994) established him as a bankable film star.

James Eugene Carrey was born in 1962, in the Toronto suburb of Newmarket in Canada. He is the youngest of four children of Kathleen (Oram), a homemaker, and Percy Carrey, an accountant and jazz musician. Carrey was an incurable extrovert from day one. Hal Erickson at AllMovie: "[Born] into a peripatetic household that regularly ran the gamut from middle-class comfort to abject poverty. Not surprisingly, Carrey became a classic overachiever, excelling in academics while keeping his classmates in stitches with his wild improvisations and elastic facial expressions. His comedy club debut at age 16 was a dismal failure, but Carrey had already resolved not to be beaten down by life's disappointments." By December 1981, a well-known comic in Canada, he received interest from Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. Touring venues throughout North America as the opening act for Rodney Dangerfield, Carrey made a triumphant return home to Toronto in 1982, performing two sold-out shows at Massey Hall. He decided to permanently move to Hollywood. During this period Carrey met and married waitress Melissa Womer, with whom he had a daughter (Jane). The couple would later go through a very messy divorce, freeing Carrey up for a brief second marriage to actress Lauren Holly. By age 22, he was making a good living as a standup comic and was starring as a novice cartoonist on the short-lived sitcom The Duck Factory (1984). Throughout the 1980s, Carrey appeared in supporting roles in such films as Peggy Sue Got Married (Francis Coppola, 1986) starring Kathleen Turner, and Earth Girls are Easy (Julien Temple, 1990) as the alien Wiploc. Impressed with Carrey's lunacy, fellow extraterrestrial Damon Wayans made a call to his brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who was in the process of putting together the sketch comedy show In Living Color (1990-1994). Carrey joined the cast and quickly made a name for himself with outrageous acts such as the grotesquely disfigured Fire Marshal Bill, whose dubious safety tips brought down the wrath of real-life fire prevention groups.

1994 proved to be s good year for Jim Carrey with the release of three top-grossing comedy films to his credit: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Tom Shadyac, 1994), the manic superhero movie The Mask (Chuck Russell, 1994) with Cameron Diaz, and Dumb and Dumber (Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly, 1994) with Jeff Daniels. The Mask, released in July 1994, grossed $351 million worldwide, and Dumb and Dumber, released in December 1994, grossed over $270 million worldwide. By the end of the year, Carrey was commanding seven to ten million dollars per picture. The actor/comedian took over for Robin Williams as The Riddler in the blockbuster Batman Forever (Joel Schumacher, 1995). The film received mixed reviews but was a box office success. He tried his hand at a darker and more menacing role as a maniacal cable repairman in The Cable Guy (Ben Stiller, 1996). The film, and Carrey's at-times frightening performance, received decidedly mixed reviews from critics and audiences. He returned to all-out comedy in the energetic hit Liar, Liar (Tom Shadyac, 1997) as a chronically dishonest attorney. Carrey explored new territory with his lead role in the highly acclaimed The Truman Show (Peter Weir, 1998). He played a naive salesman who discovers that his entire life is the subject of a TV show. Carrey demonstrated an uncharacteristic sincerity and won a Golden Globe for his performance. Critical respect in hand, Carrey played legendary comedian Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon (Milos Forman, 1999). Carrey disappeared into the role, living as Kaufman -- and his blustery alter-ego Tony Clifton -- for months. He won another Golden Globe for his powerhouse performance, but the film earned less than stellar reviews and did poor business at the box office. Such was the strength of the actor's portrayal, however, that his exclusion from the Best Actor nominations at that year's Academy Awards was a source of protest for a number of industry members.

Jim Carrey returned to straight comedy the following year with the Farrelly brothers' Me, Myself & Irene (Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly, 2000), in which he starred as a cop a state trooper whose Jekyll and Hyde personalities both fall in love with the same woman (Renée Zellweger). Hal Erickson: "Though that film fared the least successful of the Farrellys' efforts to that point, Carrey's anarchic persona was given seemingly free-range and the result was his most unhinged role since The Mask." Carrey slipped into a furry green suit to play the stingy antihero of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Ron Howard, 2000). The film raked in the money at the box office and received a Golden Globe nomination despite widespread critical contempt. Continuing to seek acceptance as a skilled dramatist, Carrey next appeared in the box-office bomb The Majestic (2001). Carrey returned again to both comedy and box-office success with Bruce Almighty (Tom Shadyac, 2003). After handily proving that his power as a big-screen star was very much intact, Carrey wasted no time switching gears once again as he embarked on his most ambitious project to date, the mind-bending romantic-dramedy Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry, 2004). Scripted by Charlie Kaufman, the film garnered rave reviews and featured what was arguably Carrey's most subtly complex and subdued performance to date. Carrey's cartooney presence on the screen would make him a natural fit for the kids' movie Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Brad Silberling, 2004), based on the popular children's novels of the same name. More family films followed over the coming years like A Christmas Carol (Robert Zemeckis, 2009) and Mr. Popper's Penguins (Mark Waters, 2011). Carrey would also continue to explore dramatic roles, however, such as the dark thriller The Number 23 (Joel Schumacher, 2007) and the critically acclaimed biographical black comedy I Love You, Phillip Morris (John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, 2009) with Ewan McGregor. Carrey published a children's story, 'How Roland Rolls' (2013), and with Dana Vachon, a novel, 'Memoirs and Misinformation' (2020. Carrey has one child with his first wife, Melissa Carrey, Jane Carrey (1987), and a grandson, Jackson Riley Santana (2010).

Sexy Canadian-American actress and model Pamela Anderson (1967) is best known for the TV series Home Improvement, Baywatch and V.I.P., but the platinum blonde but naturally born brunette also appeared in a dozen of feature films and on a record 14 Playboy covers. Furthermore she is an international celebrity thanks to her rocky marriages, her animal rights activism and her changing bust sizes.

Pamela Denise Anderson was born in Ladysmith, (Vancouver Island), BC, Canada, the daughter of Barry Anderson, a furnace repairman, and Carol (née Grosco) Anderson, a waitress. She was the first Canadian baby born in Ladysmith Canada's Centennial Day in 1967, A Centennial Baby. As a child, Anderson suffered frequent sexual abuse, a fact she revealed publicly in 2014: she was molested by a female babysitter from ages 6 to 10, raped by a 25-year-old man when she was 12, and gang-raped by her boyfriend and six of his friends when she was 14. She also revealed that her father, though "loving", had been an alcoholic. Anderson attended Highland Secondary School in Comox, British Columbia. During high school, she played on the volleyball team. She graduated in 1985. In 1988, the 19-years-old Anderson moved to Vancouver and worked as a fitness instructor. In 1989, Anderson attended a BC Lions Canadian Football League game at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, where the stadium camera featured her on the electronic scoreboard while wearing a Labatt's Beer T-shirt. The fans cheered her and she was brought down to the football field. Because of her fame in Vancouver, she signed a commercial contract with The brewing company to be the Blue Zone girl. More advertising assignments followed. Anderson appeared as the cover girl on Playboy magazine's October 1989 issue. She moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a modelling career. Her second book, the sequel Star Struck (2005), is a thinly veiled look at her life with Tommy Lee and the trials of celebrity life. Anderson appeared in the mockumentary, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Larry Charles, 2006), as the title character (Sacha Baron Cohen) becomes obsessed with her, and plans to abduct and marry her. She appears as herself at a book signing at the end of the film, confronted by Borat in a staged botched abduction. The film opened at No. 1 in the US box office, maintaining first place for two weeks straight. More recently she co-starred in the independent film The People Garden (Nadia Litz, 2016), a Canadian-Japanese drama starring Dree Hemingway, and for this year she’s scheduled to return in a cameo as the older C.J. in a new film version of Baywatch (Seth Gordon, 2017). The new film version stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Priyanka Chopra and Zac Efron and the tagline is promising: Don't worry, summer is coming. Recently, Pamela Anderson, now 49, appeared in the erotic magazine The Amorist in new pictures by photographer Rankin for a new ad campaign for an erotic lingerie brand. The DailyMail Online commented: “Time may well be a cruel mistress, but Pamela Anderson goes some way towards proving the years have been kind in a stunning new photoshoot.”

Sexy Canadian-American actress and model Pamela Anderson (1967) is best known for the TV series Home Improvement, Baywatch and V.I.P., but the platinum blonde but naturally born brunette also appeared in a dozen of feature films and on a record 14 Playboy covers. Furthermore she is an international celebrity thanks to her rocky marriages, her animal rights activism and her changing bust sizes.

Pamela Denise Anderson was born in Ladysmith, (Vancouver Island), BC, Canada, the daughter of Barry Anderson, a furnace repairman, and Carol (née Grosco) Anderson, a waitress. She was the first Canadian baby born in Ladysmith Canada's Centennial Day in 1967, A Centennial Baby.
