I spotted this tiny crab in the sand about 20 feet from the water, and my first thought was, could it be real? Which makes this most suitable for this week's Looking Close on Friday theme. It certainly looked real, but very tiny, only 2-3 inches across. Did a hungry gull scoop it from the water's edge and then drop it? The blue color was striking, but there are blue crabs. I didn't want to touch it, in case it was decaying, but took a series of photos, getting down in the sand for this closeup. After zooming in on the photos at home, I finally decided that it was just a very realistic child's toy, but finely detailed and very realistic. -- Robert Moses State Park, New York August 22, 2023
