Designed with bumble bees in mind, here is Chelone glabra, the White Turtlehead. You have be strong to get into the Turtlehead. Bumble bee strong. This is a good edge of the woods plant and particularly likes semi-wet feet. Spreads nicely, supports bumble bees. There you go. Photographed and collected by Helen Lowe Metzman.

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See

We are resolved into the supreme air,
We are made one with what we touch and see,
With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,
With our young lives each spring impassioned tree
Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range
The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.

Anise-scented Goldenrod - Solidago odora - Another of the goldenrod pack that together create great fields of yellow in the fall that we somehow dial out when composing lists of beautiful wildflowers. Bee-wise, as mentioned previously, it has numerous fans that are specialists on the composite family, but the details of goldenrod attraction across this specious group are pretty darn mysterious. So, start collecting goldenrod species for your garden/pasture and let me know how it goes. Picture and specimen by Helen Lowe Metzman.
