Opened in 1988, the glass and steel pyramid designed by Pritzker Prize winner I.M. Pei covers the main entrance to the Musée du Louvre in Paris. It is one of François Mitterand's "Grand Projets". It was not the least bit controversial for quite some time but has significantly boosted the interest of visitors in this noble "mother of all art museums".
