The Church of Theodosius of Pechersk was built on the site of an old wooden temple dedicated to the same saint in 1698-1700. According to legend, the temple was erected on the spot where the procession that carried the relics of Theodosius from the Far Caves to the Assumption Cathedral stopped. At the stopping place, a dry tree came to life, so it was decided to build a temple here in honor of one of the first Kievan Rus saints.
