As you look off to the left of the bridge, the bright yellows of the pignut hickory have softened into goldenrod, exuding a comforting warmth, but they are less intense and more delicate than last week.
Leaves that were once brilliant crimson now adopt a more muted burgundy, resembling rich, aged wine. The fiery oranges transform into warm, apricot shades, reminiscent of a setting sun.
A few kayakers are taking advantage of the last warm days of fall. Water on the lake mirror the changing colors of fall, amplifying the sense of fading beauty, with the muted colors on the water's surface creating a tranquil and contemplative scene.
Select trees along the Forest Exploration trail have tree identification tags placed by the Pocahontas Chapter of Virginia Master Naturalist.
